The Silk Road :

The Silk Road is one of the most extensive and far reaching land trade routes to ever exist in human history.  The Silk Road traveled over vast geographic, political, religious, and cultural boundaries.  It connects the Chinese coast with Constantinople and effectively serves as a highway for goods, services, ideas, and technology between the east and the west.  In addition, languages were spread from different regions through traded texts and the traders themselves.  The literature and art work that stems from the Silk Road is rich in history, political conflict, and a bit of mystery.  The trade cities that developed along the Silk Road became centers of cultural exchange and learning.

Whether you teach ancient or modern world history, the Silk Road touches upon multiple curricular units.  Three lessons for high school students are listed below and can easily be adapted for the needs of diverse learners.  See the resource page for additional information and resources for teaching and learning about the Silk Road.
