Culminating Lesson: Hindu-Buddhist Religious Summit

Objective:
    Students will be able to
1. Summarize the major concepts of Hinduism and Buddhism
2. Gain an in depth understanding of key figures in Hinduism and Buddhism

Materials:
1. Textbooks, reference material, etc.
2. White paper and popsicle sticks (masks)
3. Colored markers, pencils, etc.

Activity:
1. Place students in groups of 3-4 and assign each group a key figure from each religion (should be an equal amount from each religion)
2. Have students research
-The life story of the assigned figure
- Major accomplishments
- Relation to religion
3. Have students create
- A mask to represent their figure (find an image)
- A plaque stating the name of the figure and a life motto reflecting the figures relation to Hinduism or Buddhism
4. Religious Summit
- Place student desk in seminar format (an open U)
- Have 1 student from each group represent the figure with their mask and plaque
- Have the rest of the class ask specific questions based on their research

Conclusion:
1. As a class use the following debriefing question to conclude the lesson and unit
- What did you learn about each figure?
- What else would you still like to learn?
- In what ways was this summit historically accurate?  Inaccurate?
