Formative Assessment

Interpretive Reading and Listening Read aloud sentences, paragraphs and articles with high fluency, accuracy and prosody; Identify main ideas, supporting details and text types of required articles and classmates’ essays; Skimming for text structures and main ideas; Using reading strategies to make prediction and inference about materials related to the topic in discussion. Presentational Writing and Speaking Make suggestions for maintaining cross-cultural romantic relationships Integrate reading materials and discussion take-away to writing assignment Present summaries of the survey results Interpersonal: Read classmates’ essays, then explain and defend opinions about cross-cultural romantic relationships with supporting evidence and with attention to organized speech or essays with a variety of genres; Interview classmates, family and friends about their viewpoints about cross-cultural romantic relationships, and incorporate these ideas effectively to the presentational task.

Summative Assessment

Presentational Writing/Speaking: Students will write and present on Tips for Maintaining Cross-cultural Romantic Relationships, and present it to the class. Interpretive Reading/Listening: Students will read and listen to classmates’ drafts/presentations, and vote for one that can be used for creating a final brochure/pamphlet. Interpersonal: Students will explain, discuss, clarify and debate why voting for one draft over another.
