In-Class Talking Points: Buddhist principles and doctrine

The idea is to give a solid foundation in the history and philosophy of Buddhism for the closer examination of literature, art and film that will take place in the following days. My lecture will center around geography and history of the Himalayas, and such key Buddhist concepts as the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, the Three Jewels, karma, impermanence and no self.

Journal Assignment: What elements of Buddhism made it appeal to landholders, outcasts and women alike?
