Overview

Your class has received a letter from a penpal in Taiwan.  The letter describes her community.  The class reads the letter and writes a letter about their own local community to the penpals in Taiwan. 

Objectives

  1. Compare the similarities/differences between a community in Taiwan and their own local community.
  2. Describe their own local community to their penpals in Taiwan.
  3. Describe the recycling tasks implemented in the community.
  4. Identify the various natural disasters that can happen to a community.
  5. identify main idea and supporting details in the given text about my community by using the following reading skills: predicting, asking questions, summarizing, and rauding.

Targeted students

Element School, 4-5th grade (Immersion Program)
Proficiency level: Intermediate Mid to Intermediate High
